A Tipi Wedding on the Norfolk Broads - Laura and Cynthia

Laura and Cynthia are Australian nationals currently living and working in Norwich.  They chose Hall Farm in Horning, Norwich for their Tipi wedding.   The best thing about being an East Anglia wedding photographer’s is working at beautiful outdoor Norfolk wedding venues and getting to meet great couples like Laura and Cynthia.

Norfolk is a great place for outdoor wedding venues especially when you get to have a romantic wedding ceremony lakeside on the Norfolk Broads.  When you look at the setting it makes you wonder why anyone would want to marry indoors in a beautiful county in the summer months.

Two smiling women wearing dressing gowns and wellington boots pose playfully outdoors with arms outstretched and one leg lifted. They stand on a path with trees and greenery in the background.
A collage of four photos shows women getting ready for an event, with make-up being applied, hairspray used, and a woman reflected in a mirror, all in a calm indoor setting.
Close-up of two diamond rings nestled in an orange-pink rose, next to a flat lay of brown men’s dress shoes, white women’s shoes, and a small bouquet of flowers on a white background.

On the day we arrived early and caught up with Laura and Cynthia who were in high spirits making their preparations.  They were in the capable hands of Carrie Parker who was doing their hair and make-up.  Whilst we thought they both looked amazing when ready, We did dig the robes and wellies look they were sporting before the ceremony too!

The bespoke wedding ceremony took place in Hall Farm’s Barn that had been decorated elegantly with flowers and candles that were the clever creation of Ivy Floral Events.

Two life size cardboard cut-outs had been made of Laura and Cynthia’s friends Amy and Sheree and as they day went on and the drinks started to flow everybody saw to it that Amy and Sheree didn’t miss out on any of the fun!

Most couples book a local wedding photographer for their weddings.  We are lucky enough to be local wedding photographer’s in East Anglia, so we are spoilt for amazing wedding locations for outdoor weddings.

Covid-19 restrictions limited numbers to 15 guests which meant that friends and family from Australia couldn’t attend.  However, the were no travel restrictions for their 3-legged dog Kenzie, who made the trip from Australia to attend the wedding.  Yes, that’s the world we’re living in folks.  Dogs are enjoying greater freedom than humans right now!

Kenzie was one of three dogs at the wedding, all of which had dressed for the occasion (thankfully K9’s are not included in the headcount)

After a gorgeous ceremony the girls put their wellies on and we all walked to the tipi for the reception.  We captured the walk including some rather curious sheep and cows.  The tipi, that was provided by Magical Events Ltd, was erected next to a serene lake in the grounds of Hall Farm and looked amazing.  Fairy lights, a firepit, elegantly dressed wood tables dressed with gorgeous floral arrangements.  It looked like something out of a wedding magazine and was the last word in outdoor boho chic.

Everybody enjoyed a drinks and canapes reception (the food looked amazing!) and there were blowing bubbles and outdoor games for the youngest guest, and the ‘not the youngest’ guests as well!  It was a great chance for me to take some natural candid images of everybody relaxing and mingling in this beautiful setting.

We then quickly whisked Laura and Cynthia away for a mini photoshoot.  We loved the pictures we took on the bridge over the lake.  The one with their friends in the background with the rainbow-coloured smoke grenades was our favourite image of the day.  Here take a look!

It’s always good to work with other suppliers in the wedding industry and this was certainly the case working with Emily Andrew wedding and events.  Laura and Cynthia were is safe hands as Emily had helped them to create the perfect tipi wedding and was on hand on the day to ensure everything ran smoothly.

We love quirks at weddings as they tell you something of the couple’s personalities.  Experience had taught us that the more quirks we see, the more fun we have!  At Cynthia and Laura’s wedding it was the wedding cake which had refresher love heart sweets on it with messages like ‘marry me’, ‘for ever’ and ‘my girl’.  Really fun and original, as were the rubber duck brides!

We unobtrusively worked my way around the wedding capturing a great combination of candid, group and individual images.  I even managed to get some drone images too. (Drone photography always adds something extra to wedding photographs!)

Though the highlight of the wedding for us were the funny videos that friends and family in Australia made and that were played on a large screen in the Tipi.  As were the hilarious speeches made by the best men Rob and James.

As they day went on the weather improved from overcast to sunny and we enjoyed some lovely evening sunshine.  The low evening light was exquisite (bear with me, us Norfolk wedding photographers are total geeks when it comes to banging on about light!) it gave us a chance to get some romantic portrait images of Laura and Cynthia on the fairy lit bridge, over the lake, amongst the trees and under the moonlit sky.  A magical setting to capture some gorgeous images.  A really special image for the photo gallery.

Celebrations ended with a fun sparkler serenade, that ended in a kiss. And the image of Laura and Cynthia embracing with their lovely guests looking on seemed like the perfect image to close the story of their fantastic wedding day.

A truly unique and joyous outdoor tipi wedding full of love and laughter.  Congratulations to Laura and Cynthia for getting married and thank you for allowing me to tell the story of it with beautiful and timeless images.  I hope your wedding album will enable you to relive it again and again for many years to come.

We will leave the last words to Laura and Cynthia.  Here’s what they had to say about working with us.

"Wow! The photos are amazing – we looked through them all last night and are so incredibly happy with how they turned out. You did an amazing job, thank you so much!"
